AMT 250 - Manual Drive Train & Axles6 credits This course provides basic theory required for successful completion of ASE area A3: Manual Drive Train and Axles. Instructional focus includes: clutch operation, clutch diagnosis, clutch maintenance, clutch service, basic gear theory transmission/transaxle design, shift mechanisms, synchronizer theory, power flow, gear ratios, system electrical, fluid service, disassembly and reassembly procedures, four-wheel drive theory, transfer case theory, four-wheel drive operation, all-wheel drive theory, all-wheel drive components and systems, diagnostic procedures, disassembly and reassembly procedures, CV Joint identification, CV Joint service, U-Joint identification, U-Joint operation, RWD differentials, differential service, diagnosis and inspection. Students develop trouble-shooting/repair techniques by utilizing structured diagnostic stratagems based upon contemporary procedures. Emphasis is placed upon modern repair practices. Prerequisite: Credit in AMT 101 , AMT 110 , AMT 130 , AMT 141 , AMT 143 , AMT 145 or instructor approval. Corequisite: Verifiable registration/attempted testing of ASE area A3: Manual Drive Train and Axles. [F]
