SUR 203 - Professional Practice in Surgery2.00 credits This course focuses on the professional practice in surgery, equipping students with essential knowledge and skills to excel in the field. It covers effective communication, teamwork, and career advancement in surgical technology. Students will explore ethical principles, legal framework and real-world scenarios to make informed decisions that prioritize patient safety and interdisciplinary collaboration. The course emphasizes clear communication, active listening, conflict resolution, and effective teamwork strategies within the surgical setting. Assess avenues of growth, specialization, and progression into management and leadership roles. Develop skills to evaluate sentinel event and address ethical challenges in the surgical setting, promoting improved patient safety and quality of care. Prerequisites: SUR 135, SUR 135L, SUR 150, SUR 150L with a grade of “C” or better. Corequisite: SUR 201C, SUR 202.
