Professional Truck Driver Career Pathway Certificate

Less-Than-One-Year Certificate of Completion

This career pathway certificate includes classroom training covering: logbooks, safety procedures, and hours of service. This is followed by road/yard training covering: behind-the-wheel driving, entry-level driver training, three types of backing, pre-trip practice, and preparation for the commercial driver’s license drive test. In order to obtain the career pathway certificate, students also take a course on human relations.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the impact of human perception on workplace attitudes, behavior, and motivation.
  2. Examine typical workplace scenarios involving human behavior to determine the most effective techniques to apply in those scenarios.
  3. Use visual search, speed/space management, and proper procedures for operating at night and driving in extreme weather.
  4. Apply inspection and maintenance techniques and principles to tractor and trailers. 
  5. Use proper communication and reporting techniques.
  6. Summarize the standards and information in order to pass the commercial driver’s license skills test.
