Science, AS

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Degree and Certificate Programs

The Associate of Science (AS) is designed for students who are planning to transfer credits to a bachelor’s degree program for which the AA-OT degree is not appropriate. The AS program allows greater flexibility in course selection but does not guarantee that the student will have all lower division comprehensive and general education requirements transfer to the intended bachelor’s degree program. Therefore, students are advised to work closely with their receiving institution to ensure proper transfer of credit from KCC to the bachelor’s-granting institution.

Program Requirements

For courses to meet general education requirements, they must be collegiate-level numbered (e.g. 100). Courses numbered below the 100 level do not apply to the degree but are prerequisites to degree requirements.

  • Candidates for the degree must earn a minimum of 90 credits.
  • Transfer students must be aware of the second language requirement for the particular college and bachelor’s degree they are seeking.
  • Candidates for the degree must attend KCC and accumulate at least 24 credit hours of satisfactory work to establish residency. Non-traditional, challenge, or credit transferred from another institution may not be applied to the 24 credit-hour residency requirement. This requirement may not be waived.
  • No more than nine credits of Special Studies or Work Experience apply.
  • No more than three credits of PED courses apply.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average is required for graduation.
